Four Seasons Sneak Peak

I’m a bit behind on posting this one. I received an invite through Kentwood to attend a sneak preview of the Four Seasons Denver, but more importantly to look at the Four Seasons Residences. At this point the Four Seasons Denver is now open, but at the time I attended the event the grand opening hadn’t yet happened.

In true Four Seasons fashion everything was PERFECT! We were treated to an amazing brunch in one of the residences. The most notable was dried bagel thins accompanied by Lox. These were no ordinary Lox. I’m a big lover of everything Lox, but this was just pure butter. I’ve never tasted Lox like this in all of my life. To say the least, I highly recommend ordering bagels and Lox while you’re there … just delicious!

The residences are just gorgeous. Again, the high note here was the view. However, designing side of my personality couldn’t help but being in awe of the inlaid stone in the closet doors. Again, just perfection! Following are a million photos I took during the day.

We also went on a tour of the spa. One question … when can I plan my next spa day? The pool is open all year round and heated with a great view of the theater district. The eucalyptus spa has reclined seats built into the tile seats. The relaxation room is available all day with plugs for your iPod and computer. The sauna is up-lite through river rock providing the right amount of ambient light. The designer in my must point out again how the tile was laid out vertically as opposed to horizontally, which is another great way to update some standard tile options in a large space.

The only low point … I was running late and chose to park in valet. I assumed incorrectly that valet would be comped since the hotel was not yet open and we were there to help sell Four Seasons Residences. When I realized valet was not comped, I realized I didn’t have cash. Watch out … $3.50 charge of the ATM. With tip and everything, parking for an hour was a cool $20.

Four Seasons Denver – Open!

So excited to announce the Four Seasons Denver is open!
photo by Four Seasons Hotel Denver

The new Four Seasons Hotel Denver, right of center, looms over the city’s theater district.

After three years of construction and three weeks of intensive preparation, the Four Seasons Hotel Denver finally opened Tuesday.

The $300 million, 239-room hotel threw open its doors to guests and diners around 11:30 a.m. MDT after a ribbon-cutting ceremony that featured Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Jim FitzGibbon, president of Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The hotel was at 60 percent occupancy for its opening day and is close to being sold out for its debut weekend, general manager Thierry Kennel said.

Hotel rooms occupy the lower 14 floors of the 45-story building at 1111 14th Street, located catty-corner from the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The upper 31 stories are home to 102 private residences, where move-ins began a few weeks ago.

Speakers at the ribbon-cutting ceremony said the Four Seasons will bring a new brand of luxury to Denver’s already flourishing hotel scene, adding a resting place, gathering rooms and an upscale restaurant in what is now the fourth-tallest building in the city.

“This is a big day, not just for Denver but for Colorado,” Hickenlooper told a crowd of Four Seasons employees and city tourism officials gathered near the new facility’s front door. “The Four Seasons is a measure in every part of the world of excellence of a city … This is going to be a five-star boost to the city and the county.”

The hotel has 280 employees, 60 of whom requested to transfer to Denver from other hotels in the chain, said FitzGibbon. Those employees had just completed three weeks of practice for Tuesday’s big event.

In addition to its guest rooms, the Four Seasons will feature Edge Restaurant and Bar, 17,000 square feet of meeting space, a spa and rooftop pool and nearly 1,200 works of local art.

The hotel is offering introductory room rates starting at $180 a night through Jan. 31. Its normal rates will be in the range of “the high two hundreds to the low three hundreds,” Kennel said.

“It’s an overwhelming sort of excitement and almost a sense of relief after you work so hard for so long,” he said shortly after the ceremony.

Chris Norton, project director for the residences in the building, said he, too, is excited to have the hotel in place, as residents will now get to take full advantage of amenities like room service, dry cleaning and the spa.

Owners of the building just sold an $8 million penthouse, he said.

The structure was developed by Michael Brenneman, Jeff Selby and their partners at 1111 Tower LLC of Denver. Brenneman and Selby formerly owned the Hotel Teatro boutique hotel in downtown Denver.

Pinkberry is coming!

The much loved yogurt spot popular in LA and NY is finally finding a home in Denver. Two locations are  scheduled to open with another 15 stores planned over the next five to six years.

The first shop to open will be at 1000 S. Colorado Blvd 107, Glendale, CO 80222 in the same shopping center as Tokyo Joes, Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. A soft opening is scheduled for May 26th from 10am to 6pm. New Pinkberry devotes will enjoy one free yogurt with one free topping plus fabulous giveaways and prizes. The official opening will be on May 27th (is it ironic that it opens the same day as SATC2?).

The second store to open, will be at 1600 Glemarm Pl 130, Denver, CO 80202. No opening date has been set just yet.

Nordstrom Rack Grand Opening

The much anticipated Nordstrom Rack on Colorado and Florida opened yesterday to a mass of awaiting shoppers. Police officers directed traffic at both entrances while a Valet company directed shoppers to open parking spaces. Designer labels were abundant, although the selection was a bit disappointing. The real gem was the the jean selection that seemed to go on for miles. While there were long lines for the dressing rooms, the line to check-out was non-existent thanks to the over 15 cashiers! Nordstrom had many executives on hand to help with the day and answer any questions. While it was a mad house, I’m happy that the Rack is now in town which eliminates the long drives to Park Meadows or Flat Irons.

Coloradans love their food …

Just a fun piece of trivia. Did you know that Colorado is home to 11 of the top 100 fast casual chains. For those not familiar with the term, fast casual is the mid-point between fast food and sit down dining. Some of the companies that call Colorado home are;

Einstein

Smashburger

Qdoba

Chipotle

Garbonzo Mediterranean Grill

Noodles & Co.

Boston Market

Quiznos

Mad Greens

Suki Thai Noodle

Bonbay Bowl Read the rest of this entry »

The Shoppe

My eyes were just opened to a truly wonderful gem on Colfax. The Shoppe is an amazing coffee/cereal/cupcake bar open until 2am!

The plain white walls throughout the Shoppe are dotted with art work from local artists featuring my favorite treat … cupcakes! Guests are encouraged to stay with the lure of board games from childhood like Checkers, Clue and Monopoly.

Be fair warned that the cereal bowls are about the size of your head and if you are able to finish your “breakfast,” you can color me surprised. A friend of mine ordered Golden Grahams, Marshmallows and Chocolate Chips for her fare and while delicious, it was a bit overwhelming.

For those of you with a Gluten free diet, they even offer Gluten free cupcakes. Albeit, the cupcakes aren’t the true definition of gluten free since the cupcakes are presumable made in the same bows, pans and ovens as the gluten fuelled cupcakes, it’s nice to have the option.

If it happens to be your Birthday, or perhaps a friend’s Birthday, never fear. They have cards and candles to celebrate the big occasion!

Pure Nail Spa

AlPure Nail Spathough Lowry has had to say goodbye to some of the founding retail partners like Bellaflora, Firefly Furniture and Ella Blue, I’m happy to announce we have a new addition to the neighborhood. Pure Nail Spa (located just north east of the hanger) has been open for about a month and a half and I can’t sing enough praise for this luxury nail spa!

Let me start off by saying that Pure Nail Spa looks and acts like a typical nail center inside a Spa, without the prices. All of the furniture and fixtures are brand new. The members of the staff I met on my visit have all been nail technicians for 7+ years, with some even owning their own salons. The quality and attention to the smallest detail is impeccable! I know this is a bold statement, but I believe this is the best pedicure I’ve ever had in terms of longevity.

Hands down I can saw this was the best Mani/Pedi experience I’ve ever had! They welcomed me right in and had me situated in a pedicure station within the first minute. My technician made sure that I was comfortable with the massaging chair before she began and even put my purse in a basket to make sure it was well out of the way of any possible spills (this has happened in the past and is frankly not a fun experience).

Included in their standard package, I received the typical nail services plus a hot oil massage on my hands and legs followed up with a hot stone massage! I can’t confirm this, but I believe there was also a Broncos football player in the salon with his wife getting the deluxe package with included some type of leg wrap which looked heavenly.

I’ve included the website here. Take a peek at all of their services as well as their children’s services. Don’t forget to get a punch card on your way out, the 10th service is free!

Einstein Bagels Opens in Lowry

After living directly in Lowry for 6 years, not to mention the 18 years in Crestmoor, we finally have a fast casual breakfast spot! Perhaps its my Jewish roots, but I love a good bagel and Einsteins happens to be my favorite!

Today is their big opening which was handled fairly smoothly compared to other opening day restaurants I’ve been to. I counted no less than 10 “big cheeses” from the corporate office who greeted every customer and made sure every guest was well accommodated. It blew my mind when I walked in and saw the long line, but was pleasantly surprised when a cashier walked right up to me and took my order on an electronic notepad while I was in line! The wait for my food took some time, but again was relatively quick for opening day (morning, no less!).

Einstein took over the space from Urban Harvest and kept with the same layout, but added in a cafe bar which sits about 15 on bar stools with plenty of outlets for those of use who like to work in coffee shops. Don’t miss the large outside patio which is dog friendly!

Speaking of dogs, Einstein’s still features there “dog bagels” which my dog loves. I’m looking forward to taking her on a walk over to the Town Center to try this new treat.

While Einstein is wonderful, don’t forget the Starbucks next door! I had the perfect breakfast this morning with a sesame bagel, salmon cream cheese, capers, tomatoes and a vanilla latte! It doesn’t get much better than that!

17th Avenue Business District in Uptown

Well, here goes … it’s my first post. I consider myself a pretty technological person, but blogging is way out my comfort zone. Although, I should pat myself on the back considering my parents just learned how to text and how to use the digital cable remote! As you can see, I live in Denver and I love this city! In fact, I’ve made a career out of helping others love it as well.
Through this blog, I hope to share with my friends, family and clients the wonderful gems this city has to offer.
Tonight’s topic: The 17th Avenue business district in Uptown
Strings – A must! This restaurant has been there forever and is a Denver staple. The price range is a bit higher than say a casual sit down dinner, but it’s well worth it. If you can, try to sit in either the atrium or the back corner near the atrium … those two spots are the best seats in the house! Check out the menu at http://www.stringsrestaurant.com/.
D Bar – Here’s a new one. It’s located right next door to Strings and apparently serves dinner, although I’ve heard their desserts are amazing. So, for a night out on the town you might want to try Strings and then move to D Bar Desserts for a little dessert. Try the cake and shake to feel like a kid again. They also create amazing cakes for that next big birthday party or special event. Check them out at www.dbardesserts.com.
Henry’s Salon – Ok, now that we’ve decided where you are having dinner and dessert, try visiting Henry’s Salon before your big night and ask for Katie … you will not be disappointed by her amazing color talents! While getting glam, don’t forget to treat yourself to a mani and perhaps a glass of wine on the house. I will warn you that the best cupcake shop, Yum Yum’s, is located right next door. Grab one for the kiddos and perhaps just one, or two, for yourself! Check out Henry’s Salon at http://www.henryssalon.com/ & Yum Yum’s at http://www.yumyumsdelights.com/.
Tavern Uptown – If you find that your night has exceeded your expectations and you’re not ready to go home just yet, I would highly recommend the Tavern Uptown. If you can swing it, try to get in the back room for a little bowling action and if possible, sit either in front of the fire place, or out on the patio … again, best seats in the house. Visit them at http://www.tavernhg.com/uptown (check out all of thier locations!).
Steubans - If you are finally done with this whirlwind of a night, you might want to have a little snack at Steubans. Try thier Mac n’ Cheese, Sliders or Hush Puppies. Check them out at http://www.steubens.com/.
